Clock Running Fast - Our coffeemakers, like most digital clocks, use the power utility frequency (60 Hz) as a time reference. If another device is plugged into the same circuit, and is causing interference, the coffeemaker clock will run fast. The most common devices to cause interference have a switched-mode power supply, such as air conditioners and refrigerators (which is why they are usually on their own circuit), dehumidifiers, and induction cooktops/burners. Additionally, ultrasonic pest control devices, and solar panel inverters are known to often cause interference.

To determine if interference is causing the clock to run fast:

  • Unplug the coffeemaker for 15 minutes.
  • Isolate a circuit that is not connected to a solar panel inverter, so that no devices are plugged into any outlet on the circuit. A circuit is not the same as an outlet, as several outlets are often wired to the same circuit. Each circuit is controlled by its own breaker or fuse.
  • Plug the coffeemaker into an outlet on the isolated circuit.
  • If the coffeemaker accurately keeps time as the only device on the circuit, interference by another device is the cause of inaccurate time-keeping.
