Rice sticking to the bottom of the pan

Rice sticking to the bottom of the pan is normal.

As rice cooks, a thin crust may develop on the bottom of the cooking bowl. This crust is chewy or crunchy and many people enjoy eating it. With parboiled and brown rice the crust may be browned on the bottom. The crust can easily be peeled off and discarded, if preferred.


If the consumer is upset that the rice is sticking to the bottom of the bowl

  • Advise consumer to try putting some oil on the bottom of the pan before cooking the rice.

To remove the rice stuck on the bottom of the cooker

  • Soak the rice bowl in hot water.
  • The water will loosen the rice and make it easy to clean.

If the rice is sticking to the bowl

  • Recommend soaking the rice in water for 15 minutes before cooking. This will wash off the extra starch that causes the rice to stick.
  • Advise consumer to add oil, butter or margarine to rice
  • Make sure that consumer is using the correct ratio of water to rice (Verify that the consumer is using the rice measure provided with the unit and that the rice is added to the bowl before the water.}
