How to descale your 12 cup coffeemaker:

  • 1.) Pour white vinegar into water reservoir up to the 6-cup mark on the water window. Add cold water up to the 10-cup mark.
  • 2.) Put a paper filter in the filter basket and close cover. Set empty carafe on the carafe plate.
  • 3.) Turn on coffee maker. Let half the cleaning mixture brew into the carafe (until level is around
  • 4). Turn off coffee maker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes. Turn off coffee maker; empty carafe and discard paper filter.
  • 5.) Turn on coffee maker again and brew remaining cleaning mixture into carafe.
  • 6.) Fill reservoir with cold water to 11-cup line; replace carafe on carafe plate and then turn on coffeemaker for a complete brewing cycle to flush out remaining cleaning mixture. You may want to repeat this step to completely remove the vinegar smell/taste.
  • 7.) Wash filter basket and carafe as instructed in CLEANING of the Instruction Book.

How to descale your 12 cup coffeemaker:

  • 1.) Combined 6 cups of white vinegar and 4 cups of cold water in carafe.
  • 2.) Pour into water reservoir.
  • 3.) Place an 8 to 12 cup basket style paper filter in the removable filter basket.
  • 4.) Make sure the lid of the carafe is in place and place empty carafe on the "Keep Hot" carafe plate.
  • 5.) Plug power cord into an outlet.
  • 6.) Press AUTO CLEAN to active cleaning cycle; the word CLEAN is displayed and the POWER ON light illuminates.
  • 7.) Part of the mixture will brew through. Remaining mixture will be held in coffeemaker for 30 minutes before completing its brew through.

Note: The entire cleaning cycle will take 45-60 minutes to complete.

  • 8.) When the coffee maker completes the AUTO CLEAN cycle, it beeps and shuts off automatically.
  • 9.) Brew fresh water through appliance following the instructions given in GETTING STARTED of the Instruction Book before brewing coffee again.

5 Cup Coffeemaker (No Auto Clean Feature)

How to descale your 5 cup coffeemaker:

  • 1.) Pour white vinegar into water reservoir up to 2-cup level on water window.
  • 2.) Add cold water up to 5-cup line.
  • 3.) Place a paper filter in the filter basket and close the cover.
  • 4.) Set empty carafe on the "Keep Hot" carafe plate.
  • 5.) Turn on coffee maker and let half the cleaning solution brew into carafe (until water level goes down to around 3). Turn off coffee maker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes to soften the deposits.
  • 6.) Turn on coffeemaker and brew remaining cleaning solution into carafe.
  • 7.) Turn off coffeemaker, empty carafe and discard soiled filter.
  • 8.) Fill reservoir with cold water to 5-cup line, replace empty carafe, then turn on coffee maker for a complete brew cycle to flush out remaining cleaning solution. You may wish to repeat this step to eliminate any remaining vinegar smell/taste.
  • 9.) Wash the brew basket and carafe as instructed in the CLEANING section of the Instruction Book.

How to descale your single serve cup coffeemaker:

  • 1.) Fill the mug about 1/3 full with white vinegar and then to the MAX line cold water and pour into the water reservoir.
  • 2.) Place the mug on the mug rest.
  • 3.) Press the START switch and let the cleaning solution brew through until the unit shuts off automatically.
  • 4.) Repeat the process using a new solution; do not reuse the first solution.
  • 5.) Use the mug to fill the reservoir with cold water and brew the plain water through to flush out any remaining solution.
  • 6.) Wash and dry the permanent filter, filter basket, lid and mug as instructed in the CLEANING section of the Instruction Book.
