Toaster vs Toaster Oven

Which one should I pick?
Often consumers will debate on if it is better to own a toaster, toaster oven, or both. In general when it comes to toasting, toasters brown more evenly and consistently than toaster ovens. Still as the heating technology in toaster ovens improve the toasting in a toaster oven is a close comparison. If the consumer would like something that do more than toast such as melt a cheese sandwich, broil a hamburger, or roast a chicken then a toaster oven would be more of a value. Also, some consumers may like the added benefit of having both appliances. The following are some factors that should be considered when determining what to purchase.

  • Toaster ovens take longer to toast
  • If counter space is a consideration toasters a normally smaller in size
  • You are not able to bake or broil in a toaster
  • Depending on the model a toaster is usually easier to operate

Toaster Features

Depending on the model a toaster can have many different features. The following are the different features available:

Bagel Feature

  • The bagel button is used to toast foods such as bagels or English muffins.
  • The Bagels and English muffins are thicker and take longer than regular bread to toast.
  • When using this feature the inside of the bagel will be toasted and the outside of the bagel will be warmed.
  • The inside elements will heat up more than the outer elements and may appear that only the inner elements are working.

Cancel Feature • If the wrong button is selected, press the CANCEL button and re-select the desired cycle.

Defrost / Frozen Feature

  • The frozen button is used for frozen toastable foods (such as waffles, toaster pastries...).
  • When this feature is selected, the toaster will automatically defrost the food and then toast it.
  • This feature may have a longer cooking time than standard toast cycles.

Reheat Feature

  • The reheat / warm button is used to warm foods that have been toasted and have cooled.
  • When this feature is selected, the toaster will warm the food.

Note: This feature is not to be used to reheat foods with butter or any other toppings.

Toaster Safeguards

Power Cord is too Short A short power cord (or detachable power cord) is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used, providing the marked electrical rating of the cord is at least as great as the electrical rating of the grill. We recommend “appliance” *type extension cords. Ensure the cord is arranged so that it cannot be pulled on by children or tripped over. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces To protect against electrical shock do not immerse cord, plugs or appliance in water or other liquid. When the oven is not in use, it is recommended to unplug or disconnect it from the wall outlet.
