Coffee Makers - How Coffee Makers Work

There are many parts that make up a coffee maker. In general all drip coffee makers consist of a:

  • Water Reservoir
  • Heating Element
  • Tube leading from the reservoir to the heating element
  • Tube leading up to the reservoir base, connecting the water to the drip area
  • Shower Head/ Spreader
  • Brew Basket

How it Works

  1. Cold water is poured into the reservoir and then flows through a hole located on the bottom of the water tank.
  2. The water then flows through a tube and then into an aluminum tube located in the heating element.
  3. When you turn on the switch the heating element starts to heat the tube and the water will start to boil.
  4. After the water starts to boil the bubbles rise up through the tube carrying the water with them.
  5. The water flows up the tube and is evenly dispersed through the shower head over the coffee grounds.
  6. The hot water flows over the grounds, through a tiny hole on the bottom of the brew, and into the carafe.
