What is a Date Code

  • Date codes are numbers found on the product that determine the actual manufacturer date of production. These numbers are part of the client criteria that must be captured as part of the warranty and call capturing data required on most calls.
  • Date codes can be found on the actual product body, packaging carton or on the bottom of the box, and the blade of the ac power cord.
  • Locations vary on the actual manufacturer brand name of the product.

The date code can determine whether product falls with in the warranty guidelines set forth by the manufacturer.

Black and Decker

Black and Decker date codes are found primarily on the metal prong of the ac power cord and are mainly three to five digits and letters. The date code is stamped or engraved into one of the metal prongs of the plug. The sequence of the date code indicates the year and week the product was manufactured and the letters indicate the manufacturing plant of where the product was made. Some products may not have the letter suffix and may only have three digits.

Example: 014DE 2010 /14th week of the year/Made at _____ (Out of warranty)

  • The date code line above indicates the product was made in the year 2010 and the 14th week of the year, and plant location marked DE indicates the factory of origin. This information is crucial to both reporting and warranty indication and must be captured as part of the call process.

The date code system is proprietary information and may not be shared with your customer.
